Welcome to the World of Chainsmoker Cat
Chainsmoker Cat, known in Japan as Yani Neko (ヤニねこ), follows Yani Neko, a cigarette-loving catgirl and member of the beastfolk whose daily life is an unpredictable mix of bad habits, questionable decisions, friendships, money problems, and repeated attempts to somehow keep everything together.
Part slice-of-life comedy, part chaotic character study, Yani Neko takes a world where humans and beastfolk live alongside one another and focuses on something far less heroic: the messy reality of everyday adult life.
This independent fan site explores the Chainsmoker Cat anime, original Yani Neko manga, beastfolk characters, episodes, relationships, themes, artwork, news, and little details that make the series such a distinctive comedy.

Meet Yani Neko
Cat ears. Cigarettes. Bad decisions.
Yani Neko is the exhausted, nicotine-fueled center of Chainsmoker Cat. She’s a cat-like beastfolk whose apartment, finances, habits, relationships, and general approach to adulthood rarely appear to be under control.
She is messy, stubborn, impulsive, frequently irresponsible, and somehow still strangely lovable.
Much of the humor in Yani Neko comes from watching Yani Neko navigate ordinary adult life with the confidence of someone who absolutely does not have things figured out.

More Than Just a Catgirl Who Smokes
Chainsmoker Cat takes the familiar idea of the cute anime catgirl and sends it somewhere very different. Yani Neko isn’t simply a catgirl dropped into an otherwise ordinary world. She is one of the beastfolk who live alongside humans in the world of Yani Neko.
But instead of using that premise for fantasy adventures or heroic quests, the series focuses on apartments, jobs, cigarettes, bills, friendships, boredom, laziness, bad choices, and the strange routines of everyday adult life.
The comedy is exaggerated, but the situations are often surprisingly familiar.
People overspend. Apartments get messy. Work is annoying. Friends make questionable decisions. Motivation disappears. Plans fall apart. And sometimes the best you can manage is getting through another day.
That contrast between cute beastfolk characters and chaotic adult life is a big part of what gives Yani Neko its personality.
What Are Beastfolk in Chainsmoker Cat?
Beastfolk are animal-like people who share the world of Yani Neko with humans. Yani Neko and several other major characters have distinctly feline features, including cat ears and tails, making the beastfolk an instantly recognizable part of the series’ visual identity.
Yet Chainsmoker Cat treats the existence of beastfolk as part of everyday life rather than the beginning of an elaborate fantasy adventure. Humans and beastfolk work, socialize, argue, struggle with money, make friends, develop bad habits, and deal with many of the same ordinary problems.
We’ll explore the different beastfolk characters, their relationships, and what the series reveals about this unusual world throughout our character and Yani Neko guides.
